Directorate General of Export Promotion is an extended arm of Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) headed by a Director General and under overall control of Member (Customs of EP), CBIC. It primarily looks into policy issues relating to Special Economic Zones (SEZ) and other export promotion schemes under Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) like EOUs/EHTP/STP/BTP and Gems & Jewellery export promotion schemes. DGEP attends meeting of Board of Approval (BOA) for EOU/SEZ, Inter-Ministerial Standing Committee (IMSC) in the department of information technology Etc. meeting with DGFT/MOC on the matters relating to above export promotion schemes and interacts with trade including export promotion councils. It acts as a consultative body in the form of Customs Consultative Group (CCG) with trade and stakeholders and suggests changes/ improvement in customs relating procedure and policies to facilitate international trade. Allow GST, refund issues arising out of export shall now be looked after by this Directorate.
